I moved to Australia just over a year ago. I had been offered a job here. Australia was not a place I really planned on moving to but the right job came up. I cam here on a 457 visa. This is a four year temporary visa.
The 457 visa is not the best visa to have. It is linked to employment with a specific sponsor. So if, for any reason, you lose your job you must then leave Australia within 28 days. Well this is the theory but in actual fact this can often be prolonged. I believe you only have to leave the country within 28 days of receiving official notification from the immigration service. So, taking in to account the slowness of government, it may take several months for them to send this letter. Even if you get the letter you can still contact them to explain your circumstances and ask for an extension
